The Stuff That Dreams Are Made Of
The thing I love about LA is that there is always something new and fun to do. Now I have lived here my whole life and I have never gone to a screening at Hollywood Forever Cemetery. This is mostly because I thought it was weird and creepy. I mean you are watching a movie at a cemetery…. I had only thought of doing this during October because I figured that would be kind of cool and add to the scariness of the movie. ANYWAY….
Mary and I have been talking about going for a while and she forwarded me a link that they were going to be screening Jurassic Park and have fireworks. I love fireworks and Matt’s favorite movie is Jurassic Park so the three of us immediately purchased our tickets (good thing we did because it ended up selling out). Now with outdoor movie screenings you have to
- Arrive early to grab a spot
- Bring lawn chairs (or something to sit on)
- Bring food (because you got there too early and now need something to do to pass the time)
- Bring booze (optional but at the same time a necessity)
- Bring blankets (to both sit on and keep you from getting cold)
Matt, Mary and I brought the following: Pizza Hut pizza, wine, 4th of July cookies, Dino fruit snacks (you know going along with the Jurassic Park theme), soda, 2 large bags of candy, chips and salsa, lawn chairs, and a blanket. We brought so much food that collectively we could have fed a family for a month!

After finding a spot and unloading our spoils we settled in for a night of dinosaurs and fireworks. I must say that this was way cooler then I had originally anticipated. The crowd cheered and sneered throughout the entire movie making the overall experience seem like you were watching the movie with a thousand of your closest friends. Everyone seemed to know every line in the movie….that is except for me. I hadn’t seen the movie in years so I was nervous and stressed out for the characters in the film. Both Mary and Matt kept poking fun at the fact that I was scared and hiding in my hoodie.
As the end credits started to roll the fireworks began. This was the first year that they were doing fireworks at the Hollywood Forever Cemetery and the same people that do the fireworks for the Olympics and the Hollywood Bowl were going to be doing the fireworks for this as well. The fireworks were gorgeous, impressive but too short. We assumed that this was due to them having some technical difficulties and this would probably be the first and last year of fireworks (At least we were able to experience them).
