Chelsea: Girls Night at Nicole's

Not going to lie, when the train wreck that is the Bachelor/Bachelorette/Bachelor Pad (or whatever other spin off that the Bachelor franchise will think of next) is on…. Monday’s become my FAVORITE day of the week! Yes, feel free to judge. But in all seriousness it’s a great show to watch with your girlfriend’s, drink some wine and just comment on the drama and the craziness that is the Bachelor.

Now I should warn you in advance that this is not a review of last nights show… if you want a review (or synopsis) I highly recommend checking out Jen Frase’s Blog (that girl and her blog are hysterical). Moving on…

For this weeks Bachelor I was invited to go to Nicole’s apartment to have a girls nights with her and Monica. Since the Bachelor didn’t start until 8 and I didn’t want to drive all the way home, I went straight to Nicole’s after work.

I am absolutely in love with Nicole’s apartment. I love the location, I love the building and I love the way she decorated her apartment (she has impeccable taste). You walk in and you feel like you are in a magazine ad for upscale living. It is absolutely gorgeous! I love the art work on the walls, the perfectly placed candles, the minimalistic decor… Simply put: it is fabulous! I know I am not really doing it justice but you should just take my word for it that it is fabulous. After taking a tour of her place, Monica arrived and we began to catch Nicole up on what she had missed thus far on the Bachelor. While catching her up, Nicole was busy preparing dinner. I am TERRIBLE in the kitchen so instead of trying to help her and inevitably doing more harm than good (like burning her fabulous apartment to the ground), I helped by placing items on the table and drinking wine. For dinner we had roasted chicken, Caesar salad, tater tots (by request of me… yes I am a 5 years old), pita chips, buffalo cheese dip, hummus, and this amazing yogurt dip. It was quite the delicious spread.

After an amazing (and healthy) dinner, it was time for the ~~train-wreck~~ Bachelor to start and we gathered around the tv with junk food and wine for two hours of ~~amazing-ness~~ ~~awfulness~~ drama (again if you want a recap check out Jen Frase’s blog here). While watching, Monica told me about this app called Viggle where you check into tv that you are watching for points. These points can be used for gift cards to Starbucks, Sephora, Bestbuy, Hot Topic, Lowes… You can also get points by playing along with the show. For example for the Bachelor you can play a trivia game and receive points for correct answers. It’s fun and why not receive points/rewards for watching tv?

Anyway as the Bachelor ended, (and gave previews for TOMORROW night’s episode which I am so excited for!!!!) I was extremely thankful that Nicole and Monica included me in their girls night. I had so much fun and I am so glad I went.

Chelsea: Tiki No

There is a bar in North Hollywood that pretty much transports you to a tropical getaway. As soon as you pass under the tiki torches and through the door, you are overcome with a feeling of being on vacation. There are puffer-fish lights illuminating the bar in an array of different colors, bamboo-lined walls, and shipping containers hanging from the ceiling. The bar and booths are even under little tiki house roofs and of course it wouldn’t be complete without tiki music playing in the background. The bar is therefor appropriately named “Tiki No”, as in Tiki North Hollywood (like the NoHO district….).

During the week this is one of my favorite spots near me because it is is fun and relaxing. It is also the perfect place to catch up with old friends and double date with an amazing couple like Katie and her boyfriend Jared.

I was very excited to see Katie and Jared because I hadn’t seen them in months. I am pretty sure the last time I saw Katie was when the Kings won the Stanley cup. Needless to say we had a LOT of catching up to do!

The night flew by and it wasn’t until I looked at my phone that I realized it was after 10 (I know I know, I really know how to party eh? Well in my defense it was a week night and I have to be up pretty early for work). Anyway, realizing that it was getting pretty late for a Wednesday, we said our goodbyes and promised to see each other more often. I really hope that we keep this promise, I don’t want to go another year without seeing them.

January 13, 2013 kicked off award season with the 70^th Golden Globe awards presented by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association. It was truly a night of red carpet glamour, hilarious one-liners from hosts Amy Poehler and Tina Fey, amazing and heartfelt acceptance speeches, and of course the occasional surprise or two.

Chelsea: Sardo's for Amber's Birthday

Saturday night, Matt and I went to Sardo’s Grill and Lounge to celebrate the lovely Amber’s birthday. For those of you who don’t know, Sardo’s is a dive bar in Burbank that offers up karaoke, cheap drinks and cheap food. Basically a winning comibination for a good time. I am actually pretty surprised Matt and I haven’t been to more karaoke bars let alone this one because it is super close to my apartment.

When we arrived, Matt and I were greeted by an enthusiastic Amber. I absolutely love Amber! We used to work together at Disneyland and from the moment I first met her I knew I wanted to be her friend or at least be in her life in some way. She is just so friendly, funny, personable and fun without even trying. Also her upbeat and energetic personality is simply infectious. Everytime I am around her, I know that I will have a good time and at some point be hysterically laughing. She is also so caring and one of those friends you can rely on for anything. It was then only fitting that when Matt and I arrived she was completely surrounded by friends, some I knew and some I was excited to meet.

It was absolutely wonderful to see Courtney and Lauren (two girls I do not get to see enough) and to also hear them sing (which is expected when you enter into a karaoke bar). The night was filled with good singers, bad singers, funny singers, entertaining singers…. you know the usual mix. Shannon and Courtney busted out “Love the way you lie” by Eminem and Rihanna with Shannon rapping away like it was nothing. Lauren brought it back and got the whole crowd involved by singing some Jackson 5. Amber, Shannon and Madelyn sang out (a very long version of) “No Scrubs” by TLC a song I am pretty sure no one had heard of since the 90’s but entertaining nonetheless. Even though Matt was sick he brought down the house with Third Eye Blind “Semi charmed life” and I wanted to do a crowd favorite (don’t worry I didn’t do “Don’t stop believing) and chose Bon Jovi’s “Wanted Dead or Alive”.

Since there were 3 birthday’s celebrating at Sardo’s, the KJ had the entire restaurant since Happy Birthday simultaneously. It was definitely something to witness since the place was packed and everyone was singing pretty loudly.

But the topper of the evening was when a group of Elvis’s came in the bar and sang to Amber. It was shocking, random and completely entertaining (afterwards we found out that Elvis’s birthday is on January 8th and this was a way to pay tribute to the King). Such a fun night and I am so happy that Matt and I were apart of it. Hopefully there are more nights like this to come!

I am certainly going to miss this lack of traffic on my commute...

Chelsea: Fox Holiday Party

Happy Holidays!!!

I do love this time of year. I mean it’s the time to be with friends and family, to bust out sweaters and other warm clothes (yes I realize I live in Southern California but it gets cold!!! well cold for me at least), to decorate your home for the holidays, to go to Starbucks and grab a holiday drink in a red cup (you know what I am talking about),and of course attend holiday parties!

This has been quite a season for holiday parties. I went to a tree decorating holiday party, a holiday baking/treats party, regular christmas party, and a themed company party. Love love love!

The Fox holiday party was so much fun! It was on the Fox lot on the New York City sets (where the film Don’t Trust the B in Apartment 23, How I Met Your Mother, Bones….) and it was decked out with holiday decorations, window paintings, street performers, NYPD card, old black and white movies (Fox ones of course) playing on the buildings, lounge like chairs/sofas, poker tables, a HUGE dance floor, food, dessert tables, and drinks. It was a huge undertaking that was really very cool! The only problem was that it was absolutely freezing and it was super windy! I tried to stay as long as possible but the cold won out and I left early to seek sanctuary in the warmth of my car (blasting the heat on my drive home).

Even though I left early it was super fun to have the opportunity to be apart of this and to enjoy it with my absolutely lovely co-workers!

Chelsea: Sam Adams Brewery Tour

After a long and much needed good night sleep, Matt, Matt’s Mom and I ventured to the Samuel Adams Brewery for a Brewery Tour.

This was definitely something I was very excited to do! Growing up my mother worked for Miller Brewing Company so I was pretty familiar with breweries (they offered take your daughter to work days, company picnics, tours…) but being able to take a tour of a smaller brewery that brews Matt’s favorite beer was something I definitely wanted to experience.

Matt always says that drinking Sam Adams reminds him of home and after being in Boston for just a day and a half I can see why. It is everywhere! Also it is just very New England…. I know that doesn’t quite make sense but it’s the best I can do to describe it.

If you are in the Boston area I highly recommend taking the Samuel Adams Brewery Tour. Not only is it free, but you get to see how the beer is made, learn the history behind the beer and the brewery, AND on top of all that you are able to drink the beer after the tour in a free souvenier glass. It’s a winning combination all around…. I mean what more can you ask for?

The tour was very interesting and filled with history, facts, interactive learning (we were able to smell the hops and taste the different malts) and some new trivia that I can bust out on people (for example… how many kinds of beer are there in the world? The answer may surprise you… it is 2: Ales and Lagers…. *sings* the more you know). To make it even better our tour guide was absolutely hysterical and highly entertaining. Matt and I kept saying how we wanted to be friends with her in real life. At the end of the tour Matt even wrote that on the comment card. Now looking back, I am thinking that it probably freaked her out more then anything but at least she knows.

Of course the tour ends in a gift shop and I was able to get a magnet to add to our growing collection of magnets for the fridge. I also recieved a notification that someone had replied to one of my tweets from that day:

Such a wonderful afternoon and I am so thankful I was able to spend it with Matt and his mom. Also I may have told them that everytime I am in town, this is something we have to do. I am looking forward to going again, and again, and again….. you get the idea.

Today is officially my 25th birthday! Hooray!

After last nights fun at Trader Sams with my friends, I wanted to spend today as low key as possible. You know just enjoy a lazy day with Matt and have a birthday lunch with my parents. Since my parents do not live in LA, Matt and I met them halfway for lunch at Claim Jumper. When we got to the restaurant and walked in, we were greeted by balloons, my parents, Grandpa Steve, Aunt Rose, Aunt Annie, and my cousins David, Kim and their son Jared. It was quite a surprise. Here I was thinking that Matt and I were simply going to have lunch with my folks and to see my extended family at the table it was absolutely wonderful and also quite surprising!

I should have had the sense to grab a full family photo but (I am going to blame it on the fact that I was shocked) check out the photo of me and my birthday cake:

Lunch was delicious and it was so great to spend my birthday with my family. We only really get together for holidays and big events so I am glad that my birthday was an event that everyone could come out and enjoy. I am looking forward to this year. I expect great things to happen….not sure exactly what but great things all the same.

Chelsea: Breaking Dawn Part 2 Review

Last night I was invited to attend a press screening for Breaking Dawn Part 2 at the Landmark Theater by my cousin David. Yes, I am part of the rare few who have seen Breaking Dawn before it comes out later this month to the general public.

Please let me begin this review by saying that yes I have read and enjoyed all the books and yes I was extremely disappointed with the movies. They were….okay? I mean they weren’t spectacular they were (let’s be honest) just money makers. I was extremely excited to attend the event but Breaking Dawn Part 2 wasn’t a movie that I was going to rush out and see. I know, I know I may have made a few enemies or in the least made a few Twihards extremely pissy and for that I apologize. But please continue reading as a way for me to make amends….

As soon as the opening credits began, I knew that this movie was going to be so much better than the other movies. The attention to detail and the beauty that went along in just the opening credits and opening scene captivated me. Within the first few minutes I was entranced (something I never thought I would say about a Twilight movie). With that, I shall now begin my review and try not to give too much away:

The quality of the movie, the script, the acting (more specifically Kristen Stewart’s Acting), the cinematography… just everything was quite amazing in comparison to the other movies in the Twilight Saga. It was quite apparent that the budget was far bigger on this movie than the others because the special effects were bigger, larger and (dare I say it) more believable than with the other films.

Kudos to the scriptwriter(s) of this film. With the script I laughed, I cried, and I even partook in that opening weekend audience participation (which I absolutely hate!). You know what I am talking about, when you go to openings of movies and people clap, cheer, and jeer at the movie. It is so ridiculous and unneccesary because the actors can’t hear you, their performance will not change due to what you yell or say at the screen. Well…this movie made me, and the whole theater for that matter, scream/yell at the screen, have minor heart attacks and then breathe huge (and audible) sighs of relief. Thank you screen writers, cast and crew for making me partake in something that I find utterly ridiculous. Also by turning a non Twihard into a… lets say entertained and impressed viewer who will happily shell out $9.50 (or whatever they charge at movies nowadays) to see it again… a job well done!

Now I need to focus on Kristen Stewart and her acting. Can we all agree that her acting has been let’s say… sub par in the past Twilight movies? Okay now that we are all on the same page, she was surprisingly really good in this film (something I NEVER thought I would say).

SPOILER ALERT

If you read the books (or saw the last movie) this really isn’t a spoiler but she is 100% believable as being a caring and worried mother. Also her love for Edward and protecting her family at all costs is highly apparent. I don’t think she will get an Oscar for this but she should get some sort of drastic improvement award for this movie. I attribute this to the director Bill Condon for improving her acting skills…she does like a director that takes charge (oh I am sorry….too soon?)

Back to the review

There wasn’t any real weak link or terrible part to this film. I do honestly believe that this is a film that the Twihard following, the unwillingly spouses who have obviously been dragged to yet another Twilight movie and the average movie goer will thoroughly enjoy. It honestly has something for everyone. I highly recommend seeing Breaking Dawn Part 2 and honestly I can’t wait for it to come out so I can discuss this film deeper without the fear of giving something away (again something I never in a million years thought I would say).

Chelsea: Taking Back Sunday

First and foremost let me state that Taking Back Sunday pretty much sums up my High School existence. Whenever I hear Taking Back Sunday (or any band that can be found in that same genre) I am immediately transported back into a time where I had crazy hair, crazy eye makeup, customized shirts, and drove around in a very loud pink VW bug. For those of you who can’t picture that well….

Things have since….toned down so to speak. I now have long hair that is all one color, pretty neutral makeup (no crazy colors anymore), my shirts have since been traded in for more of a professional attire and even though I still have the bug in my parents garage, I drive a more sensible toyota on a daily basis. But as soon as the music begins, it’s like nothing has changed.

When Mary told me that she had an extra ticket to the Taking Back Sunday, my inner 15 year old immediately began wailing on her air guitar while doing jump kicks. Needless to say I was pretty darn excited!

This was their TAYF10 (Tell All Your Friends) tour and Taking Back Sunday was going to play EVERY song off of their break out record. EVERY SINGLE SONG! If you aren’t a TBS fan that will mean nothing to you, but to a TBS fan it is a huge deal! (Also side bar… how many bands play every song off of one record? I mean usually its a mix of new and old or if anything they play most of their album and leave a few tracks unplayed).

Anyway… as we walked up to Club Nokia I was immediately taken aback by the ecclectic group of fans that were going to the show. It was definitely a HUGE range of people: hipsters and professionals, teenagers and adults, families and couples, the “hard core crowd” (people who dress all in black head to toe and proceed to mosh, kick, swing punches and basically hurt people for no reason)…. you get the point. It was really hard to try not to stare and observe people. I mean its’s pretty amazing how music can touch all these people and bring such different groups of people together. Sure I have changed and I am not the same person I was in high school, but that doesn’t mean I can’t still enjoy the same things I loved and still love now.

There shouldn’t be any surprise that the show was so amazing. Also I, like the whole crowd, sang so loud that I nearly lost my voice and danced/jumped around so much that my legs were pretty darn sore the next day.

Thank you Taking Back Sunday for doing this tour, you have made me and my inner high schooler so beyond happy!
